Ministering to the Incarcerated in Carver County Jail

The SteppingStones Ministry began with a few women who entered the Carver County Jail each week to minister to those incarcerated there. Over time a collaborative formed between local area churches to provide support after incarceration for the women upon release from the jail. Restoration Ministries became a gathering site for those meetings and now provides an equipping ministry to local area church volunteers who enter the jail. It has been a gracious, grass roots collaborative between the churches and a place to share the transforming love and compassion of God within our own community.

Restoration Ministries provides spiritual directors, trained to listen and evoke life story, who enter the jail to be with the incarcerated each week. In the context of preparing for re-entry into the job force, we companion them in their search for purpose, meaning and healing while equipping them with practical life skills.

ON MISSION

To carry God's compassion, justice and mercy into the world

We minister to others out of a deep desire to demonstrate God's love and compassion for the world. This desire flows out of a heart that has been personally and deeply changed by the love, grace and compassion of God in Christ through the Holy Spirit indwelling us.

Many who come have experienced this kind of inside out change. Love for one's neighbor flows out of the love and mercy that has been first been received.

Jesus' words in Matthew 10 guide us in our mission at Restoration Ministries and directly influence how we go out into the world with Jesus. The Message records Jesus' instruction this way:

Jesus called out twelve of his followers and sent them into the ripe fields. He gave them power to kick out the evil spirits and to tenderly care for the bruised and hurt lives....He sent his twelve harvest hands out with this charge:

"Don't begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don't try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously.

Dont' think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don't need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment..." Matthew 10:2-9 TMG

At Restoration Ministries we provide holy space - both physical and consecrated hearts - to companion - listening, praying and ministering in the name of Jesus - to those who come. We rely completely on the provision of God through the gifts of others and ministering out of our own resources.
